EXTRACTS FROM OPINION, DATED MARCH 17, 2023:
“A number of years ago, the medical community considered the so-called non-blood treatments as extreme and life threatening for the patient. In the medical culture the deeply engraved view is that a patient has to maintain a specific blood level to survive death and blood transfusion is the only treatment… This applies to some specific cases but is not valid in the majority of cases and patients. In recent years, this view has changed. I personally endeavor to prevent anemia, to minimize blood loss as well as the exposure of the patient to autologous blood and its main components, and to enhance the clinical image of the patient by using safe and effective surgical methods.”
“Surgeons like us who are advocates of non-blood surgery support that this approach not only reduces the cost of buying, storing, processing, checking and performing a blood transfusion, but also minimizes the danger of infections and complications resulting from these, since a much longer time of hospitalization is required.” (Original in Greek.)
